    ” Megan, many men know how to project sexual energy in a way that arouses women. These men define their worth by their sexuality and by their ability to attract woman.

    ” So what should I be doing when I feel that powerful sexual attraction?”

    If you feel sexual upon first meeting someone, there is a good possibility that this man just wants a sexual encounter with you rather than a real relationship with you. My suggestion to you is to not have sex early in a relationship, even if you are very attracted.”

    ” Well, when do you have sex?”

    ” More often than I’m willing to admit. This is what keeps happening. Are you saying that I should also go out with men that I’m not immediately attracted to?”

    Many of my clients with the best relationships are people who were not immediately attracted to each other. Others, who were attracted immediately, lost their attraction as they got to know the person.

    Why not wait until there is a commitment to the relationship and to growing and learning with each other? How often have you slept with a man that you were really attracted to and then had the relationship not work out?”

    ” Many men can have sex and then just move on without any inner turmoil. Many women feel connected to a man when they have sex with him and then feel awful when the relationship doesn’t work out. Because all he wanted was sex, it is unloving to yourself to sleep with a man early in the relationship and then run the risk of being dumped.

    When you have sex too early in a relationship, it might not be emotionally or physically satisfying. When sex is not an expression of love, it often feels empty, and then the guy might decide that you are not the right person for him because there were no fireworks.

    ” But,” replied Megan, “I always think that a man won’t like me if I don’t have sex with him.”

    ” Well, if you doesn’t like you for not having sex with him, what does this tell you about him?”

      Attraction is actually a cocktail of certain hormones generated in our bodies in the presence of someone who appears to be good genes – in other words, a person of the opposite gender who seems to have the capacity of producing a healthy offspring that will survive.
      Those hormones make us feel excited and euphoric, and we feel an enormous urge to get in close contact with the person we are attracted to.
      This is really what love is all about.
      It’s just the means of making us have sex with each other and make babies.
      All those poems about the wonders of love are written about the condition of a human being under the influence of a powerful mix of natural drugs.
      And yes, it hits high!
      Anyone who’s been in love can confirm that.
      The thing you must understand is that this process is COMPLETELY UNCONTROLLABLE.
      We can not CHOOSE who we fall in love with.
      Because the purpose of procreation is so important that Mother Nature can not rely on our recently developed intellectual capacities to make the right choice, this is. Instead, it uses the wisdom of generations BEFORE us to make the choice FOR us. The mechanism of sexual attraction is firmly imprinted in our GENETIC MEMORY.
      We are attracted to certain patterns of behavior and physical characteristics. When we come across those patterns in real life, we feel attraction to this person – and we can not help it.
      With all advances in modern science and birth control, we still have the same biological hardware as our pre-historical ancestors. Scientists say that we have the same bodies as our forebears some 50,000 years ago.
      It means that when you fall in love (or lust), you do it the same way as cavewomen and cavemen did. You simply FEEL it. You can not CONVINCE yourself to fall in love – you either feel it, or not.
      Why women and men use such different sexual strategies?
      Why men want sex and women want love?
      Because women and men ARE different.
      Not better or worse, but different.
      A man can produce a child every time he has sex, and a woman can only produce a child only every second year or so.
      For a man, there are no adverse consequences for having sex with as many women as he wants – the more children he produces, the higher his chance to procreate.
      For a woman, it’s different. If she makes a wrong choice and falls pregnant from a man with bad genes, her offspring may not survive into adulthood.
      This is why men’s and women’s sexual strategies are so different.
      Men seek quantity; women seek quality.
      Men seek abundance of sex, women – abundance of admirers.
      This is absolutely NATURAL.
      This is the reason why you are here today and alive – because your ancestors, women and men, acted true to their natural aspirations. Millions of dead ends of your species vanished into oblivion – and every single one of YOUR ancestors managed to find a sexual partner and produce an offspring that survived into adulthood.

    In the 35 years that I’ve been counseling, I’ve discovered that the one mistake people make in starting a new relationship is to have sex too soon. There are many reasons why people have sex too soon: they think it will create deeper intimacy, they are just in it for the conquest, they are afraid of rejection if they say no, they get physically carried away, they like sex. They tried to get the intimate connection through sex, but great sex is an outgrowth of intimacy, not a cause of it. Don’t jump into bed until you feel so safe with each other that even if the first time you make love you don’t get an erection it won’t ruin the relationship. Is it sex you want or a relationship you want?

    Brad was just completing his divorce after having been married for over 25 years. He had not dated in what seemed like forever to him and had no idea how to start.
    ” What are you most concerned about?” I asked.
    ” Sex,” he answered.
    ” What about sex?” I asked.
    Pause … “Well … performance. What if I can’t perform? What if I’m too nervous to perform?”
    ” Okay. Let’s start with sex.”

    And sex without deep caring might be a physically satisfying experience, but it is flat emotionally and spiritually. They tried to get the intimate connection through sex, but great sex is an outgrowth of intimacy, not a cause of it. Physical attraction is never enough to see people through the inevitable conflicts that come up in primary relationships.
    Deep caring comes through spending time together getting to know each other. It comes from having conflict and getting through it to understanding each other on deeper levels. You need to love someone’s soul before you will be willing to go through the challenges that come up in all relationships.
    What I said to Brad was, “Take your time. If the first time you make love you don’t get an erection it won’t ruin the relationship, don’t jump into bed until you feel so safe with each other that even. It may take months or longer before you feel that safe with someone.”
    ” Months? I’m supposed to wait months before having sex?”
    It depends on how much time you time you spend with each other. All this takes time. Is it sex you want or a relationship you want?
    I want a relationship. I actually feel some relief knowing that it’s okay to take my time!”
